I receive a lot of e-mails asking me to check out new music as I'm sure you do as well. You dig through the links, videos, and MP3's hoping to find something worth a damn. Sometime in mid-September, I received an e-mail from a trusted source stating I should check out a band. When I receive a note from said source, I drop what I'm doing and check it out. I was about 3 minutes in to The Rose Coil by Patrons of the Rotting Gate and I was hooked. As I investigated further, I found out this was ALL the work of a 21-year-old from Belfast. When I saw ALL the work, that means all the recording, mixing, mastering, and instruments (with a little help from a friend on guitars) I was amazed. I immediately started telling folks about this guy and reached out to him asking permission to join him in spreading the word of his talents.

Andrew east, sleeps, and breathes music. He's in 5 musical projects. He has played drums for 6 and a half years, guitar for 4, and been attempting harsh vocals since he was 13 (trying to emulate stuff like Disgorge back in the day). He was born in Belfast and lived there his whole life until a month ago, he moved to London for school where he studies music.

He wrote a demo for The Rose Coil of what is now "Chest Of Light", "Clandestine Fractures", and "A Perfect Suicide" in 2011. Those songs were recorded on a Harley Benton Stratocaster when he wasn't even thinking of them being used for any project, and then wrote about 60 minutes of material for what will probably now be the 2nd album. Then he wrote the rest of The Rose Coil and resurrected the 2011 songs and had intense writing and recording sessions in his bedroom from early June 2013 - September 2013.

As you can hear, this isn't your typical one-man band with a kid using a drum machine and a boombox trying to be the next Xasthur. This is the start of what I hope is the beginning of a trend of black metal wherein true artists express themselves and aren't ashamed of top-notch production.

released December 31, 2013

All songs written, arranged, recorded and produced by Andrew Ross Millar except "The Battle of Chamdo" written by Gorguts and "Caress of Vines" written by Orgone.
